How to Style Synthetic Wigs: From Flat to Fabulous in 20 Minutes

Styling a synthetic wig is not the same as styling human hair. You cannot use the same tools, the same products, or the same techniques — and the consequences of getting it wrong are permanent. Human hair forgives. Synthetic fiber does not. Here is what works, what does not, and the three principles that govern everything you do to a synthetic wig.

The Tools You Actually Need

• Wig stand — non-negotiable. You cannot style a wig on your head with any precision.
• Wide-tooth wig comb — for detangling before styling. Never brush a synthetic wig with a human hairbrush.
• Flexi rods or foam rollers — for curls and waves. The size of the rod determines the curl size.
• Garment steamer — the safest way to apply heat to synthetic fiber. Cannot exceed temperatures that melt fiber.
• Got2B Glued hairspray (or any alcohol-free, water-soluble spray) — the only hairspray safe for synthetic wigs. It holds style and washes out completely with water.
• Flat iron with adjustable temperature — ONLY for heat-friendly wigs, set to 250–280°F maximum.

Style 1: Beach Waves

1. Section the wig into 2-inch sections.
2. Twist each section loosely from mid-shaft to ends.
3. Steam each twist for 5–8 seconds with a garment steamer.
4. Let cool completely. Untwist gently. Finger-style — do not brush.
5. Result: loose, undone waves that move naturally and look effortless.

Style 2: Voluminous Blowout

1. Apply a light mist of water or alcohol-free setting lotion to the crown area.
2. Place large Velcro rollers at the crown, rolling the hair away from your face.
3. Steam each roller for 5 seconds.
4. Let dry completely on rollers — at least 2 hours or overnight.
5. Remove rollers. Backcomb the crown gently with a teasing comb for lift. Smooth the top layer over the teasing.
6. Lightly mist with Got2B Glued to set the volume.

Style 3: Sleek and Straight (Heat-Friendly Only)

1. Verify your wig is labeled heat-friendly. If unsure, do NOT proceed.
2. Set your flat iron to 250–280°F. Start low — you can always increase temperature if needed.
3. Apply a heat protectant spray formulated for synthetic hair. Let it dry completely.
4. Section the wig. Clamp the flat iron at the root and glide smoothly to the ends in one continuous motion. Never stop mid-shaft or you will create a crimp.
5. Let each section cool completely before touching. The fiber sets as it cools.
6. Apply 1–2 drops of silicone serum to the ends for a glossy, healthy finish.

Style 4: Defined Curls

1. Section the wig into 1-inch sections.
2. Wrap each section around a flexi rod, starting at the ends.
3. Steam each rod for 8–10 seconds.
4. Let dry completely overnight on the rods.
5. Remove rods. Finger-style. Mist with flexible-hold hairspray.
